About Louvre Abu Dhabi
It was 2007 when UAE and France made a decision to create a brand new kind of cultural institution that would base on universal human values. This museum both demonstrates the changing and developing Arab world and celebrates the Emirates’ bright and active multi-ethnic cultural legacy.
The museum opened only 10 years later, in 2017, and took the Emirate’s cultural gifts to the new level right away. The first thing you notice about this site is of course its otherworldly construction – a masterfully designed building with an impressive roof is set on the water edge. As for the contents, its main exposition shows in what ways the art worlds of Middle East and the West are connected.
The local galleries have twelve inspiring chapters to tell its visitors the human story, with each one focusing on common topics and ideas that uncover alike bonds throughout humanity. The all-embracing time range includes artworks starting to prehistoric times and ending with the latest contemporary exhibits. The art objects belong both to the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s collection and the world-wide famous French museums.
Four temporary exhibitions take place at Louvre Abu Dhabi each year following the same thematic method like the permanent collections. Temporary events too put emphasis on comparing ideas that belong to different cultures and civilizations, and finding influences and common features.
