First Family Owned Winery in Cyprus

Many years ago, in 1987, Andreas Kiriakides decided to create a small company. At that time, he wasn’t aware of the fact that the process of winemaking will become the family business, while the name of Vouni Panayia will be known in all parts of the world. Thanks to the limitless knowledge and the passion for the profession gained from his father and grandfather, he managed to create a really unique company.

The Mediterranean climate that offers soft winter and hot summer, as well as the perfect composition of the soil,  create the optimal conditions for growing the grapes in Vouni Panayia Winery. The total area of 60 acres offers such tasty species as xynisteri, spurtiko and promara, as well as yannudi, marateftiko and many others. These berries are used to make white, rose and red wines. 

 

While visiting Vouni Panayia Winery, one can discover all the secrets of the grape growing and winemaking processes. Tours are usually guided by the owners, who are ready to tell about the business of their family, showing you all the premises of the factory. Vouni Panayia has already opened a small museum, where one can watch a short movie about the process of winemaking that starts from the moment when a grape seed is planted.

In the past, the winery was controlled by Andreas Kiriakides and two of his brothers. These days the winery is managed by their sons, who studied the basics of the profession in Florence.

Paphos

In 2017 Alina white wine made from xynisteri grapes received the highest award in Decanter World Wine Awards. It received the platinum medal. The drink offers a bright scent of pineapples, peaches and other tropical fruits, leaving a slight lemon and honey taste. 

 

Red wines are also worth your attention. Barba Yannis made from marateftiko has an incredible combination of plum, dark chocolate, and sweet vanilla tastes. After combining different species of red grapes, local manufacturers managed to create Placota wine with the limitless taste of raspberry and blackberry.
