Just a couple of years ago a new attraction appeared in the city of Odessa, attracting the real fans of diving and active holidays. People are still not aware of it, but those, who had already visited the underwater museum, were simply amazed. A collection of ancient statues, busts, anchors and cannons, weapons from the World War 2, as well as a real computer and many other things, can be found at the depth of around 10 meters under the water. The collection is constantly added with new exhibits found in the Black Sea.
From ancient statues to modern equipment
In 2012 diver Igor Zyatikov decided to make his dream come true. During the last 25 years, he was diving, again and again, enjoying the beauty and the variety of the underwater world. He was amazed not only by the creation of nature but by the vast collection of items there. One day Igor decided to open an underwater museum.
By the moment of the museum opening, he had only 8 exhibits, while now the collection of the museum contains more than 30 of them. Here you can find anchors from different ships having incredible sizes and shapes. One can also find counterlanding obstructions, which were actively used during the World War 2, as well as real cannon balls from the war between Russia and Turkey in 1877-1878.

A separate area is taken by the collection of sculptures. Guests are welcomed by a giant white dog that protects the exhibits and controls the situation. A bit further, one can find a real crocodile that scares tourists. The predator looks so real that people simply forget that crocodiles can’t be found in the sea.
After swimming near the guards, one can see a couple of goddesses from Ancient Greece, as well as the busts of the most famous officials and officers. One can see Dzerzhinsky, Lenin, Stalin and other important figures from the past.
The most popular exhibit of this museum is the underwater working table with a computer. People strive to take pictures here, trying to make a serious face, while pretending to work under the water.
Last year the museum received an old ship, while now they are planning to create a training device for divers. The collection is constantly added with new objects brought by numerous divers.
The founder of the museum is also working hard to improve the collection. He orders special sculptures in the Art School of Odessa; however, he creates then on his own. While making the underwater objects, one needs to use the strongest cement and metal.
The underwater museum is open from May until October. After the end of the season, Igor and his sons take the exhibits out of the water in order to clean and repair them. Sculptures are covered with seaweed and damaged by the strong current. Sometimes they have to dive in order to take the parts of the damages objects.
The trip under the water for beginners and professionals
Not all people like to visit museums, and sometimes such visits can be boring. However, this is not the case. Underwater tours leave the best impressions and astonishing memorable moments for both newcomers and professional divers.
One can come here even at night, bringing bright torchlight. Experienced divers think that everything looks much more interesting at night.
The museum is open for everybody absolutely for free. Experienced divers are able to go there on their own, while tourists have to hire a coach. There’s a wide choice of diving schools in Odessa.
Before the first dive, the coach will tell you all the important moments, explaining how to breathe and dive. Don’t be scared that you will run out of oxygen, or stay at the bottom of the sea forever. You will have a vest with a special button. Press it, and you will go up like a rocket.
After completing the instruction, the coach will ask you to make a trial dive. In case if everything goes well, you will be able to visit the kingdom of the underwater museum.
