History of Holi
Holi is an ancient event. The first mentions of it can be found in ancient writings, and it has a lot of legends.
According to one of them, Holika was a beautiful lady. She was an aunt of the prince who decided to go against his father. His father was a despot and proclaimed himself as a god. He wanted everyone to obey him, and he ordered to burn his own son and Holika who didn’t want to listen to him.
The god sent a colorful neckpiece to people in order to protect them from the fire. The prince managed to escape, but Holika died. His father was killed with a lightning bolt as a punishment.
Bright colors of Holi symbolize the sacred neckpiece of gods, which serves as a sign of peace and justice.
According to another legend, Holika was a demon. That’s why many regions start the celebration by burning the giant figure of Holi, as at this Paint Festival photo.
