Welcome to my blog and my journey and thank you for taking a precious moment to have a look. Last year I gave up my full time photography business after 20 years and found myself wondering what would I do with my time ? I enjoy getting out for a walk and find it is the best way to discover a new area and at the same time keeping me fit.And so I have married my two passions, photography and travel. I hope I can share with you some travel tips and fun walks to do whilst in Dubai or following me on my mini trips. My first post is a place very close to my heart and one I spend lots of time ! THE PALM.
Out on the Boardwalk
Walking Along the Outer Crescent.
Today, I wanted to share with you the place I walk most days here on the Palm. How to get there !!! By Car – drive along the trunk of the palm, under the tunnel and park direct on the boardwalk – parking spaces all along the edge. By Monorail – get the monorail at the entrance to the palm and get off at the Atlantis – you are now on the boardwalk. Around the crescent of the palm is a perfect 11 km stroll/jog, with gorgeous hotel properties on one side and the Arabian Gulf on the other stretching from the Rixos to the one and Only and right past my personal favorite Zabeel Saray. Be prepared it can get quite windy out there after all you are 2.5 km into the sea, so take hats and good sunscreen too. Shots of the outer edge of the palm !!!! When you pass the iconic property of the Atlantis there is an assortment of food trucks now and the perfect place for a refreshing drink or a refuel stop with some fish and chips. I enjoyed a fresh juice at the Pineapple truck where you can choose from a great assortment of fresh fruit smoothies and healthy snacks. My personal favorite The very magical Zabeel Suray – look out later for the afternoon tea post !
Al Ittihad Park
Along the trunk of the Palm and under the Metro is another circle walk, exactly 2.5 km, so I try to get around a couple of times a day. Edged with some great coffee shops and eateries there is always a good place to stop and grab and snack at the Galleria shopping mall. Shakespeare is on top of my list, not only because they supply you with tasty little treats to accompany your tea or coffee. You will also find some useful little boutiques and salons where you can find everything from florists to key cutters – galleria mall The walk has a beautiful landscaped rockery with 60 species of indigenous trees and plants along with water features, gym equipment and children’s play areas. Well shaded by all the palm trees along the way it is perfect for a morning jog or an afternoon stroll. During the evening it gets busy with families entertaining the little ones on the parks which makes it a great place to meet people with young children too.
My favorite place for a mid morning coffee or afternoon tea!! Shakespeare Coffee lounge.
