London’s V&A museum has opened a great exhibition dedicated to achievements and legacy of legendary Christian Dior. The exhibition demonstrates more than 500 items, including 200 haute couture garments displayed together with accessories, perfumes, makeup, magazines, photographs and illustrations. The “Designer of Dreams” also presents a collection of the couturier’s personal belongings.
This exposition is V&A’s largest one since 2015, when another alike event was arranged as a tribute to Alexander McQueen. The current one is organized according to different themes, and its sections fix attention on such elements of the fashion house history as the designer’s enthusiasm for gardens.
The exposition is separated into eleven areas and it reflects the story and influence of the world top fashion house’s founder and the six art-directors who followed him.
One of the sections shows the ways travel and foreign countries repeatedly encouraged different Dior designers while another tells about the great role of gardens and flowers in inspiring creation of a wide range of products – from clothing items to perfumes.
The ball room should be mentioned separately. Placed inside a gorgeous, grand interior, it represents a true celebration. Seventy years’ experience of producing astonishing evening clothes is showcased here revealing the high fashion ateliers’ professional excellence.
