Ballet theatre of Boris Eifman takes off to North America for a month-long tour across Canada and the USA. Performances will take place in Toronto, Chicago, Costa Mesa, Berkeley, and New York. The tour is arranged by Ardani Artists producer company that has been the theatre’s long-term partner delivering its shows to North America for more than twenty years. The theatre’s artistic director – Boris Eifman – opens up about the upcoming tour’s schedule.
The tour starts on May 9th in Toronto, Canada, with his work “Tchaikovsky. PRO et CONTRA”, followed by a new creation “The Pygmalion effect” staged in the USA, including the Big Apple’s New York City Center. There is hardly any other visiting ballet company in the whole world that has been arranging yearly ballet performances in New York for over twenty years.
The new tragicomedy
“The Pygmalion effect” is a tragicomedy ballet set to the music by Johann Strauss Jr. Eifman presents a new understanding of the myth about a sculptor who fell in love with his creation, and touches a wide range of philosophical, ethical and social issues. The beauty of choreography and plastique is combined with the expressive tools of psychological ballet. The ballet’s world premiere was held in Saint Petersburg in February 2019.
